Censer

A small hand-held pan for carrying live coals from the bronze altar to the altar of incense — the vessel of daily intercession, and the instrument by which Aaron stood between the living and the dead in Numbers 16.

Symbolic meaning

Intercession that carries fire from the place of sacrifice into the place of prayer.

Christological significance

The angel of Revelation 8 is given much incense; the fire and the prayers are one motion.
